Common Questions

All You Need to Know

Are you a qualified teacher and for how long have you been tutoring?

Yes, I’m a fully qualified experienced senior practising teacher with 14 years of experience in teaching, and 10 years of experience as a tutor. I’ve been an examiner since 2009 and worked for Ofqual as an assessment expert for a number of years and I still work as a teacher in a sixth form setting.

What exam boards do you work with?

I work with all the major exam boards in the UK (& many international ones) including Pearson, AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas/WJEC, OCR, Cambridge, Scottish Highers and International Baccalaureate.

How do I book a session?

I use a specialised booking software which makes bookings extremely easy and convenient. Simply use one the booking buttons on this website and you’ll be taken to my booking page.

I don’t feel comfortable with studying online. Will it work?

I have been working online long before the COVID epidemic, and it has always proven to be much more effective and efficient than face-to-face tutoring. I've often been told how well it works and how much better online tutoring is with me than with other tutors, and that it has exceeded expectations. In fact, many clients I work with have switched to online for good, and they are all very happy about it. All the student needs is a laptop with internet connection and the rest of their usual studying equipment such as a pen, notebook, and textbook, etc.

How is online tutoring different from face-to-face tutoring?

It’s not very different at all. The only differences show the advantages of online tutoring. I use a whiteboard which I have set up in my workspace, so the class resembles the classroom experience quite a lot; I also use an online whiteboard, Google Documents we can use for notes together as well as things like Concept Board.

These and other enhancements such as screen sharing allow me to:

  • Work on the essays together with the student in real-time

  • Quickly share videos, articles, essays, and other studying resources

  • Use books and textbooks from my home library that I can’t carry to face-to-face meetings and much more.

I use state-of-the-art equipment, set-up for the best online tutoring experience which makes my online lessons much more efficient and informative than classic tutoring. I have a number of microphones, wired superfast broadband, and a few cameras including one for sharing physical documents and books. All this means you can see, hear and learn perfectly well and I'm not wasting time travelling or arriving in a rush; the time I save on travel is also given back to the student as it allows me to think about their needs after the lesson and send on more support if necessary.

My child has SEN. Can you help?

I started as a specialist SEN Teaching Assistant and I have worked a lot with children with SEN in my long career to excellent results. Being dyslexic myself, I fully understand the importance of breaking down complex topics into a simple digestible form that everyone will understand. I very often get students who are overwhelmed with the complexity of the course or are completely lost, especially when it comes to exam preparation and I am an expert in helping these students overcome any obstacles. I find it incredibly rewarding seeing students finally “getting” the subject and getting a clear understanding what they need to do to get a good mark on their exam, especially when I show SEN students that they can do it too!

I need help with writing an essay but it’s not Politics, RE or Philosophy, can you still help?

Essay structure is pretty much the same regardless of the subject. So whether it’s one of the subjects I teach or any other humanities subject, I have a great track record in helping students to learn how to write the perfect essay. I wrote a book about writing essays with all the tips and tricks you need to know to master this skill, and you can find the link to get it in the “My Essay Book” tab. In Short, a good essay is a good essay and I am an expert in teaching you what this is and how to do it!
